The Program Title Banner
Awarded in December, 1998, The NASA Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) tasked a seamlessly integrated team of engineers, technicians, managers and administrative staff with responsibility for all sounding rocket operations at Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, Virginia. The NSROC Team (Northrop Grumman, Oribtal Sciences, Arcata Associates and Reliable System Services) is proud of its partnership with Wallops – proud to share a legacy that spans 60 years and 2,650 launches. Today, Wallops Flight Facility retains its position as the world leader in sounding rocket technology and suborbital space and earth science research.

NSROC provides important – often critical – data to support NASA's orbital space programs, the Department of Defense, other Government agencies, the national and international science community, academia and commercial business venues. Our missions have added significantly to man's knowledge of galactic astronomy, solar physics, planetary atmospheres, high-energy physics, and other disciplines. Our mandate for rapid response at relatively low cost, combined with a worldwide mobile launch capability and a 95% vehicle success rate, offers prospective investigators the assurance that this Team can launch anything, anywhere and do it well!

NSROC goals are closely aligned with the Wallops Mission Plan:

Blue Rocket Bullet

To help achieve NASA`s strategic objectives for scientific and educational excellence through cost efficient integration, launch, and operation of suborbital and small orbital payloads.

Blue Rocket Bullet

To enable scientific, educational, and economic advancement by providing the facilities and expertise to enable frequent flight opportunities for a diverse customer base.

Blue Rocket Bullet

To serve as a key facility for operational test, integration, and certification of NASA and commercial next-generation, low-cost orbital launch technologies.

Blue Rocket Bullet

To support the US Military by providing low-cost rockets for target and interceptor missile defense operations.

Blue Rocket Bullet To enrich the next generation of Engineers and Scientists by providing education, training and hands-on experience to students through our Intern, Co-op and Educational Outreach Programs.
